If the Disney Corporation owned Venice…

Venice1.jpgVenice might become the very first city to ask a fee from the tourist visiting it. The idea came from British economist John Kay whose idea has now been picked up by the city’s mayor, Massimo Cacciari.

Mr. Massimo Cacciari is now considering doing this so the visitors will generate extra income to help to maintain the beautiful Italian city.

Might be a good idea,… although John Kay might have to do his homework a little better as he used a very strange and incorrect example to sell his idea.

“12 million people a year pay 50 euros a year to visit Eurodisney,” he said, “If the Disney Corporation owned Venice, Venice would no longer be in peril”

First of all it has not been called Eurodisney since 1 October 1994 when the name change to Disneyland Paris, and now it is Disneyland Resort Paris. (The company is called EuroDisney S.C.A.) There is another thing he overlook when using this phrase. Disney might not own Venice but it does own Disneyland Resort Paris (or as Mr Kay calls it “EuroDisney”) and even with the 50 euro entrance fee is not making any profit. I will not go in dept on the EuroDisney problems. (visit DLP.Info business news for some insight on that), but I had to react on this.

Maybe it is a good idea, but why do they have to use the wrong name and give wrong information to the world when it comes to Disneyland Resort Paris… A little investigation and Mr Kay might have know it is not the best example to use. (I wish it was a good example though, as DLRP disserves some better numbers, but that is a whole other story.)
