Bad script; “It’s like Disneyland for Adults”

TokyoDrift.jpgHow many times did you, as a Disney fan, had to hear it; isn’t Disneyland for children? Especially those adult Disney fans who have no children will know what I am talking about. I heard it many times before my son was born. (Now I get the “going to Disney… again” speech). Depending on who is talking to me about it I either just laugh with it or start telling how magical Disney is. I even got a non believer to go to the park. At the end he still didn’t like it, but he admitted he understood why some of us adults love it so much. (I do my best, but I cannot convince them all).

Yesterday I went to see “The Fast and the Furious III: Tokyo Drift”. I was looking forwards to it (The first one with Vin Diesel Was really OK). But I should have known better. The movie was bad, the whole script was bad. (and looking at most of the review online I am not alone thinking this movie is bad)

One example of how bad this scrip is the use of the phrase “It’s like Disneyland for adults” (Or something in that form) by one of the actors while entering a garage full of underage children with there “fast” toys. Don’t get me wrong, nothing against fans of the fast lane, I also love a good “legal” car race but to compare a drift race in a garage full of teenagers calling Disneyland for adults is just a weird thing to say… I guess it will not be the last time this phrase will be used…

Just for your information; I am not, and would never, judge a movie on this phrase, however in this case, and my personal opinion, I can say that the script was bad and even the best race moments could not make up to it. Want to see a good race movie? Go see Cars instead :-)

It’s so easy for people who have never been to a Disney park to be cynical and dismissive of the Disney experience. But the bottom line is it is a GREAT experience for adults on their own, with so much more to see and enjoy without children. We have certainly experienced WDW both ways, with and without children (MANY times!), and it is just a completely different experience each time. In many ways the parks are TOO good for kids as much of the detail and clever elaboration goes over their heads, but everyone gets something out of it and there is certainly plenty that is geared primarily towards the adult audience (much of the dining, shopping, Pleasure Island, etc) away from the parks to make it a truly captivating - and surprising - experience. So, when someone tries to tell you Disney is only for kids, challenge them to try it before they criticise it. You could also tell them to try Disney Cruise Line - a REAL grown-up experience!!

I recently watched Find Me Guilty with Vin Diesel and I was pretty blown away by his performance. I am not used to a non-action character for him. I expected him to flop, but he really did a great job.
