The CORRUPTIBLES

Corruptibles - EFF.orgYou sure know The Incredibles, the super heros from the Disney Pixar hit with the same title? And you are not alone with that … something that the Electronic Frontier Foundation is well aware of. So when the EFF was looking for a new way to get their message across they let themselves inspire by The Incredibles. The result are The Corruptibles. To make sure that everyone in the audience gets the connection to The Incredibles one scene features even a DVD cover for a movie called “The Invincibles” by Disney Pixar. But back to The Corruptibles…

Corruptibles - EFF.orgThe Corruptibles are three “super villains”, clearly inspired by the heros from The Incredibles, who do the dirty work for the big media companies by enforcing the digital right management measures promoted by the big media companies. Mr. Corruptible enforces the “Audio Flag” which is supposed to prevent unauthorized recording of songs from digital radio, Mrs. Corruptible is busy preventing the recording of HDTV programming and Corruptible, Jr. ameks sure noone uses the “analog hole” to circumvent any of the measures. Sounds strange? Well the concept is based on the current proposals by US media companies for US acts.

Corruptibles - EFF.orgCorruptibles - EFF.orgSure, the animation is in rather basic 2D and can’t compare itself with the works of Disney or Pixar. BUT this clearly is an efficient way to communicate a message - after all the short movie is not only sending a warning signal but is doing so in a really entertaining form. Don’t believe me? See for yourself on the special page of the EFF, which offers the free, animated short in Flash, XVid mpeg4, Ogg Theora and iPod-ready m4v formats.
