Find a Real Pirates Treasure
This is your chance to go on a real treasure hunt. However, you’re not going for the gold but for a brand new Volvo XC90 carrying the Pirates of the Caribbean colors.
Yes, that is right, the car will be painted and themed after the pirates movie “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest”, including graphics from the film and custom painted 20 inch wheels.
The hunt starts on the 12th June with the final question send to the players on 11th July. To be able to participate you will have to visit a Volvo Dealer to get a treasure hunt map and register online at the Volvo Hunt website.
To participate, individuals must visit a Volvo retailer to pick up the treasure maps. Winners will only be eligible if they can produce the original treasure map upon conclusion of the hunt.
In addition to the United States, other Volvo regions participating in the hunt include the United Kingdom, Japan, Spain and Austria.
Finalist will be flying to the secret location where they will be able to dig for the car. Let’s hope it doesn’t come cursed. Good luck to everybody participating in the hunt.

Come on down to Superior Volvo, StateLine and 435 in Kansas City. We have the treasure maps and the special code to start the hunt. You MUST be in possession of a map to win. It is TRUE!! Volvo has buried a Pirates of the Caribbean Themed XC90 somewhere in the word. 3 winners from the US, and one each from Japan, Great Britian, Spain and Australia will be flown to the secret location. First one who finds the XC90 owns it.
YoHoHo, come to Superior Volvo to get your map!

As far as the puzzles, if more than 3 people make it to the end, they have an essay to decide who competes, so why not help? If I’m thinking of the right puzzle for Madeira, click on one of the barrel numbers, was the 1st top left? An old guy comes up and tells a story. Write down the numbers he give you in order and that is your coordinate.
Anyone figured out MT Helena?
June 20th, 2006 at 1:18 am
Nibs494,
Thanks so much! You’re right, I guess I just was focusing more on the numbers on the barrels than anything else. Wish I could help you with St. Helena, but the only thing I know is, you’re supposed to “count”…and the other thing that confuses me is, they have N,S,E and W all listed on the ladder rungs. In the past they’ve only had the two, which made it alot easier. Wish I could help you more, I’ll let you know if I figure it out!

Thanks, figured it out FINALLY! On Helena, have to use the numbers on the ladder rungs to navigate (count) to the next ladder rung. Found a good spoiler site for anyone who is interested (and stuck!) http://pirateloot.blogspot.com/
Happy hunting!

June 25th, 2006 at 8:25 am
Wow. I am amazed at the number of people cheating. Yes, cheating. How can you feel good about entering a contest when you aren’t actually doing the work? What kind of a lesson does that send any kid who is watching with their parents working on the puzzles? Why bother comes to mind… I’m sorry I looked at this blog.
June 26th, 2006 at 2:39 pm
Nowhere it is said you cannot share information or even help people to find the solution. If people feel they want to share what they know, why not. At the end of the trip only one will win the car, maybe the person who will win found some help. As a thank you s/he could invite the person who helped her to take a drive (maybe to Disneyland or Disneyworld)… If you feel you want to do this without help you should indeed not read this blog entry but visit all the other entries instead… (really no reason to stay away). Good luck to all treasure hunters…

There are plenty of tips to be found at this forum: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=182&sid=d740149867a09b7ff69bb5619f0b8db2 . Find the appropriate thread and start reading. Keep in mind that this is a USA site, references are made to the UK and Japanese sites which are several hours ahead for new clues.

Bermuda
Dig around to find a box of wine. Drip the wine onto the bottle to reveal coordinates
Madiera
Click the 1717 barrel to listen to the story. Listen carefully, as the coordinates are hidden in the story
Cancer
Collect the pieces of the plate and put the together. The coordinates are on the plate
St Helena
The number on the first rung tells you which rung to go to next. The other numbers are formatted as such (coordinate-rung to go to next)
Isle the St Mary
Match the trees to make full circles and spell out the coordinates
Diomede Island
Connect the stars to spell out coordinates
I do not want to give the entire thing away, so i will only post these answers
