Hurricane Season Predictions

CBR-WilmaStorm.jpgHurricane season is not far away. It starts from June 1 up to November 30 and if the article in the Orlando Sentinel is correct we can expect another record year with a prediction of 16 named storms and four to six major hurricanes for this year.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts eight to ten hurricanes overall during the upcoming season, which runs from June 1-Nov. 30. The 16 named storms would be five more than the average of 11 during the past 40 years.

Last year I was at Walt Disney World during WILMA. The parks where closed and all we could do was wait.

While waiting for the storm to pass, and it was said it would pass fast, there was not much to do in the hotel room but to watch the storm outside, follow its path on the Florida Hurricane News and Blogs site, take pictures of the storm and watch some Disney TV.

This is not to scare you, but just give you a tip on how to follow the process while being on vacation at Walt Disney World.

WILMA wasn’t too bad for the Disney World visitors. In the afternoon some of the parks opened up again. We went to EPCOT to have a great afternoon without the crowds. As this was my first storm ever of this kind I couldn’t believe that only a couple of hours later I would be walking in EPCOT in a T-Shirt enjoying some sun.

Let’s just hope there will be no Hurricane Katrina this year.
