Mission Space is everywhere

MS-Epcot.jpgThe ride Mission Space in EPCOT has been on the news for the last couple of days. After the death of a 49 year old woman websites, blogs and forums where filled with news, entries and thoughts related to the incident, as mentioned in the Orlande Sentinel blog entry “Bloggers go bonkers over Disney death”. Also the Disney Blog has kept everybody up to date on this unfortunate event. “Mission: Space – some thoughts and sympathies”, one of the entries related to the issue, provided us with an interesting personal view on the way press and people handle the situation.

The main question many people are asking about the ride; “is it save?” The Orlando Sentinel asked a couple of doctors to give some thoughts on, whether you should or should not ride the attraction, in the article “Ride can aggravate health conditions

Dr. Steven Yucht, an emergency-medicine physician with the University of Florida said
“If you look at the number of people who get on these rides versus the number of people who have a problem, you can see they’re really incredibly safe. But just like anything else in life, there’s a risk.”

Dr. William Golden, an internal-medicine specialist with the University of Arkansas said
…anyone older than 30 should think twice before going on Mission: Space.

Will it scare people away…

Before riding Mission Space you are warned enough times that if you suffer from back, neck , heart problems..etc you are advised not to ride. Even before entering the building itself and before boarding you can take a last minute (chicken exit). It definately does not scare me away from riding it next time I visit, They even provide you with sick bags in the ride itself.

My sympathies go out to the family of the 49 year old women.

I went on the ride a couple of years ago. They are right, you have several opportunities to not ride. I did, but will never again. I just don’t like that kind of motion. And, so if they give you motion sickness bags, how can you even use them when you are moving soooo fast. I was just glad when the ride “landed” I didn’t have to ride BACK to earth. the ride ended!
