Magic Kingdom Paris

castleThere’s been loads of talk recently about the possible name change of Paris’s “Disneyland Park”. Again, rumours have appeared at around the same time of year as last time they entered the news, so what’s bringing this information forward? Well, apart from the Kids Carnival talking about “Magic Kingdom” several times when referring to Disneyland Park, there’s not a lot of proof. (Note: The Kids Carnival also called the park “The Magic Kingdom” last year too!)

If we are to read a future name change into the simple use of the simple phrase, then why haven’t we heard about it already? Could the team behind the resort’s previous name changes not resist another alteration or is this all talk? Well, DisneyMagic15” from the dlp.info forum seems to know something the rest of us don’t and has provided “renderings” of potential logos the resort has reportedly designed (lets watch this space).

Personally, I find the history of Disneyland Resort Paris’s names quite hilarious as there’s been so many. Euro Disneyland, Euro Disney Resort, Disneyland Paris, Disneyland Resort Paris, Disney/MGM Studios Europe, Disney Studios Paris… there’s been so many and people still call the destination Euro Disney. Could another name change survive?

I think the resort title today is very magical, charming and has the romantic association with Paris, but is quite complicate for people to remember. Lots of people I know still refer to it as Disneyland Paris purely out of ease! “Disneyland Park” also sums up the name f the park, but can get confused with the California original. To me, it’s better suited than “Magic Kingdom” simply because the parks are so incredibly different. Everyone has a pre-conceived idea about what a “Magic Kingdom” experience is and Paris’s Disneyland Park offers so much more for a European audience.

As for the Walt Disney Studios Park… who knows about it? Promoting that still seems to be a real issue (at least in the UK) and people either think it’s Disney/MGM Studios from the States or the actual film studio. Could I possibly suggest changing the name to Walt Disney Studios Paris instead?

All these rumours have made me suspicious that something must be going backstage to give people a reason to talk about it. I suppose only time will tell and there’s little we can do about it anyway, but I’d rather my admission price being spent on new attractions, entertainment and rehabs than replacing signs, logos and websites with the new name any day!

Well, with Buzz coming officially to planet Earth as of the 08th April, Toon Studios coming in 07, and the Hollywood Towers Hotel/TOT coming sometime in “whenever” 2007/2008, money is being spent on new attractions.
As for new logos, isn’t that just quaint? They can’t afford to bring back the Molly Brown, or increase Cast Member salaries to a decent livable level, or improve Cast Residences, but they can stay for hours on Adobe Photoshop, playing around with a new logo design…

I agree with Kris on this one, and ask what was wrong with the old logos?
I think there is a problem here with priorities for the company.
In my view, get the new attractions in, increase worker wages, which in turn will improve personnel morale and general well being, THEN start to worry about the little things such as new logos.

All the best to you Kris,

    MR E
