Haunted Mansion 1 (Comic Book)
US comics, it is a passion! So when they announced a comic book about Haunted Mansion I had to have it and placed an order straight away.
When the book finally arrived I couldn’t wait to see what they had done with it. The cover looked promising, so no time to loose, open to the first page and start reading.
But I couldn’t! You see comic books are a form of art. It is the drawing that needs to catch the eye. Well, opening this book and looking at what was inside… it didn’t look good and I could not get to read it at that moment.
Drawings are not everything. How about a good story? It was a comic book that promised me “Stories Inspired by the Classic Disney Attraction”. They could not spoil a perfect ride now, could they? Asking myself this question I could not help myself thinking about this awful movie they made about the ride. Would they do this again with the comic book?
On the inside readers where greeted with the words “Welcome, Foolish Mortals…” No idea how right they where going to be this time.
6 short stories where presented to us. First there was a story called “Room for a Thousand”. In this story the thousand ghost is found and gives us the tour as we know it from the ride. This story was awful!. Second story was “Blueprint for Murder”, a story about the two architects that don’t like each other, sign up to make the house, each designing one part, presenting it to each other and made sure they locked one another up inside the house to never leave again. Sounds interesting doesn’t it, but again, this story was awful! Next up; “while the Fifi is Away”. Some story about the animals living in the cemetery around the house and, you guessed it, Awful! By now I lost interest in the book. But there 3 more stories to go. “Talking Heads” with Madame Leota in the leading role. The worst drawing I have ever seen in comic history and the story was.. awful. “The New Groundskeeper” Another awful story, but at least the hitchhiking ghosts are funny (for 1 panel).

And to end this terrible book we are invited to the first part of “The History of the Manse”. By now I didn’t really care anymore, and I was right; Awful story.
At the back of the comic they promised us that in the next issue “A Ghost will Follow You Home”… If that would be all I would not be so scared. But I had to order part 2 before I could even read nr 1. Knowing that the second book is coming my way, now that is scary.
