The Disney Insider Yearbook

Disney Insider YearbookWell I thought I would write a bit of a post about the Disney Insider Yearbook that has been announced by Disney (This may turn into a little bit of a rant, however all will be revealed)

A few months back, possibly even before Christmas, I received an email from Disney advising me of their intention to release a yearbook for 2005, this will be the first time they have released a yearbook. The email invited me to register my interest, so I followed the link and registered my interest in what looked to be a very interesting annual publication…

Well on Wednesday I received an email saying I could pre-order the yearbook. Hooray. Off I trotted to the site, credit card in hand of course! I read the details, and watched the video. The highlights include the 50th Anniversary Celebrations, The Chronicles of Narnia, Opening of Hong Kong and a peak at Pirates of the Caribbean 2. It’s in full colour and looks beautiful. You also have 2 options, an annual subscription with a hardback copy, a Lithograph and a DVD, or a one off Paperback copy (without extra), priced at $49.95 and $24.95 respectively.

I hope I haven’t got anyone’s hopes up here by the way. I click Pre-order to get to the next step, confirm I want the annual hard back copy, go to the checkout and GAH! What are you doing to me Disney? They will only ship to US and Canada… OK, that’s ok, I can get around that, I have friends in the US who will accept delivery and forward to me. GAH Again. For some reason they won’t accept international orders at all, I can’t order with my UK card and get it shipped to the USA.

What I don’t understand is why would Disney make a decision such as this? Its not clear at the moment whether they intend to distribute this through normal retail channels or solely through their website! If its solely through their website, only their US and Canadian fans have a chance of getting hold of what looks to be a great Disney book! You do know you have International fans right Disney? Who do actually tend to spend a lot of money at your Parks and Resorts and on other Disney memorabilia!

I have to admit, I am lucky, I have some good friends in the US, one of whom has agreed to order for me and send the book onto me, but what about everyone else? If you happen to know a contact who may be able to do something about this (wishful thinking?), or maybe even a general enquiries e-mail address (there isn’t one on the yearbook site itself) then please feel free to reply with a comment saying how we can get in contact, if we can find an appropriate channel and enough people express an interest, maybe they’ll allow us poor international Disney Fans to order too?

If you did want to take a look, or if you have contacts in the US that can order for you, the address again is http://www.disney.com/yearbook

This book looks amazing. I guess I’ll have to find somebody who could order a copy for me.

Ok, I managed to find a email address to contact. As of yet I have not had a personal response, just an automated reply saying my response has been received and forwarded to a representative.

Try emailing yearbook@disneyonline.com, maybe with a little persuasion they’ll rethink this decision? Like you say Andy, the book looks awesome!

We have had similar problems, we now have an american friend buy and ship for us (when disney does do international shipping its prices are way over charged anyway) and then we pay her back

I wrote them a letter and this is their answer:

    Dear Mr Maertelaere

We have received your email regarding the shipping to a International address. We have forwarded your email on to the Home Office so that they can consider changing this option.

    Thank you
